Edo NDLEA Arrests Man For Drug Peddling

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly peddling dried weeds, suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The suspect, Ifa Bello, was said to have been arrested by the operatives of the agency in Egbeta village in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the substance, recovered from the suspect, weighed 24 kilogrammes. The state Commander of the NDLEA, Buba Wakawa, who confirmed the arrest, said that Bello who hails from Ondo State, would soon be charged to court.

Wakawa, in a statement by the spokesman for the command, Mitchell Ofoyeju, said, “The suspect, Ifa Bello, hails from Igba Ateru in Ondo State. He attended Eguari Primary School and Ikosi High School, Lagos.


“He is married with two children. The suspect, who deals in cannabis sativa, is currently being interrogated by narcotic investigators and will soon be charged to court for dealing in narcotic drugs.”

Meanwhile, the command said it had recovered 11 sacks of cannabis during a raid on a cannabis farmhouse in Uyere forest, located in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area.

Also recovered at the farmhouse were cannabis sativa seeds weighing eight kilogrammes, which the agency said brought the total weight of drug exhibits to 162kg.

According to Wakawa, the command had seized over 14,000 kg of drugs between January and April, 2018, while over 12 dry season cannabis farms, measuring 7.5 hectares, had been discovered and destroyed.
