Plex Adds Podcasts and Customization Options
Plex has released new versions of its mobile apps for Android and iOS. The update is an attempt to redesign the way the Plex apps are structured, but the two most noticeable changes are new ways to personalize Plex, and support for podcasts.
Plex makes it easy to consume your movies, TV shows, music, and photos. However, until now, podcasts have been noticeable by their absence. Now, Plex is adding support for podcasts, and improving the Plex apps in a number of other ways as well.
Plex Podcasts and Personalization
As outlined on the Plex Blog, Plex now supports “the incredibly rich and diverse body of content that is Podcasts”. You can make use of the feature for free and without the need to even set up a Plex Media Server. So there’s really no excuse.
You can search for a podcast, browse by genre, or just listen to what’s popular. Once you find a podcast you like you can add it to “My Podcasts” on your homescreen. Podcasts are available on iOS, Android, Roku, and Plex Web, with support for other platforms to follow.
Here at Plex we like to use every part of the media and hate it when good content goes to waste. That’s why we’ve added support for the incredibly rich and diverse body of content that is #Podcasts. https://t.co/u3Xj4iNwCJ pic.twitter.com/FhLbfKfUVH

As well as podcasts, Plex is also giving you more control over the app, with a fully customizable homescreen. This lets you reorder or remove whole sections until you get the Plex app just the way you want it.
Plex has also added tabs to the bottom of the screen allowing you to quickly switch between media types. And these are customizable too. Lastly, you can now customize the default source for each media type, allowing you to pull from a range of different servers.

Start Listening to Podcasts
It’s actually rather surprising it has taken Plex this long to start supporting podcasts. This is, after all, a medium millions of people now enjoy. Still, if you’re a Plex user who hasn’t yet got into podcasts now is as good a time as any to do so.
