Police in Ogun State have arrested one Ajibade Olumuyiwa for allegedly killing his wife’s lover.

The 25-year-old suspect was nabbed on March 17 for pummeling one Olakiitan Balogun, who he alleged of having extra marital affairs with his wife.

In a statement on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ajibade was arrested at about 1:45am on March 17, following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ajuwon Division, from residents of Doland Estate, Akute area in Ifo Local Government Area, that a man had murdered his wife’s lover right inside his house.

On the receipt of the distress call, the DPO, CSP Afolabi Kazeem, led his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.

On interrogation, Ajibade explained that he came to his house at about 12:30 midnight on the fateful day and met the deceased right inside the house with his wife. This discovery, according to the suspect, infuriated him and he started beating the man and hit his head against the wall, leading to the death of the alleged lover.

But Ajibade’s wife, Titilayo Olayiwola, denied having any amorous relationship with the deceased. She claimed that the suspect had abandoned her eight months ago and instructed the gateman in the house to monitor her movements.

She stated further that the deceased was just a cobbler residing in the locality and close to her family, adding the deceased only brought his girlfriend to one of the rooms in their home.

Titilayo said as soon as the gateman saw him (the deceased), he alerted her husband who rushed into the house and descended heavily on the deceased without listening to any explanation from her and the girlfriend of the victim.

The corpse of Olakiitan has been deposited at the morgue of a private hospital in Akute for post mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for investigation and prosecution of the case.
